US residents consume 1,635.2 litres of what?

According to World Resources Institute, US residents consume 1,635.2 litres of gasoline per capita per year.

That's 432 US gallons. Of course that includes children. The average vehicle gets 20 mpg, so that's 8640 miles driven per person and 8450 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent emitted. The average vehicle drives between 12000 and 15000 miles depending on which government estimate you use. There are roughly 2.7 people per household in the US, according to the census. The average household has 2 adults, 2 vehicles driving 24,000 miles, and .7 kids that the parents truck around.

This makes me wonder if we set our carbon emissions goals too high for the Carbon Reduction Action Group- we estimate around 12,000 lbs per adult. It's difficult to figure out how to deal with children in these calculations.
