CRAGs on Maryland Public Television

Maryland Public Television is having its Chesapeake Bay Week this week, and tonight was the Volunteer-a-thon. MPT filmed a bunch of volunteer events in March and then interviewed representatives from the volunteer organizations tonight to get volunteer hours for them. It's an awesome idea. I was at MPT for work, because we coordinate the Monocacy and Catoctin Watershed Alliance. When my turn for the interview came up, we had a few minutes off-camera while the pretaped segment of a planting at Waterford Park aired. I was telling the interviewer about how this was my second time on TV this week because of the CBS episode. So midway through our interview on camera he started asking me about it. So I told him that I coordinate a club to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in my personal life, but in my work life I work with the Alliance. And he said that the two would have similar goals. So I said something about how that is true, because planting trees not only improves water quality, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions. And then I turned the topic the best I could back to the Alliance, since that was our purpose for being there.

Interestingly, my friend Ginny talked to an MPT volunteer who also works for Carbonfund.org, which I did not find out until we were leaving. I would have loved to talk to the volunteer, since we plugged Carbonfund.org on the CBS segment. Another time, perhaps.

Funny how worlds collide. Anyway, the Maryland CRAG and the Monocacy and Catoction Watershed Alliance were both on MPT tonight.

Hi - I would be that Carbonfund.org employee who volunteers at Maryland Public TV. I agree, the Chesapeake Bay Volunteer-a-Thon is a great concept. The number of volunteer hours contributed was fantastic. As an employee at Carbonfund.org who is committed to improving the environment, I find that events and clubs and groups and organizations create a synergy that is making positive change. We're all in this together; together we'll make a difference.
